Celebration of Wool @Hogshaw Farm – May 2023 meeting

Join the guild at A Celebration of Wool at Hogshaw Farm & Wildlife Park, where we will be demonstrating fibre preparation from fleece, spinning and weaving. Learn about the different fibres that are available and how they become yarn and fabric. Have a go activities available for all ages. We will be in the café at the entrance, which is free to enter. Sheep shearing demonstration inside the farm park, entrance fee payable. Plenty of free parking and refreshments available to purchase.
Do you have a fleece you don’t know what to do with? Come along and chat to guild members with knowledge of skirting, washing, carding and combing fleece, including the best ways to spin different breeds and fibres.
Timings
9am – guild members setting up display and activities.
10am – Farm park opens, activities start in café.
11am – Sheep shearing in the Animal Barn, a Dorset, Teeswater and possibly a Boreray. Members are demoing skirting and discussing uses of fleece. [Park entrance fee required]
4pm – Activities in Farm Café end and café closes.
5.30pm – Farm park closes.
Activities for visitors (free of charge, donations for materials welcome)
Weaving on a small Micki loom
Spinning on a wheel or drop spindle
Children’s Activities
- Woven bookmarks on weaving cards
- Friendship bracelets on cardboard braiding discs
- ‘Dress the sheep’ – glue fleece on a sheep outline & name your sheep
Plus there will be information about wool processing and a small display of work by guild members.
