Weaving Lace workshop – March 2025 meeting

Workshop: weaving Leno and other lace techniques with Ariana Odell
Ariana is going to show us how to create the lovely lace techniques that she uses in her scarves, on a rigid heddle loom. More details below, including what you need to bring. Please sign up for the workshop by email, as places are limited. You will be sent a booking form and payment instructions.

- Show and Tell – bring something you have recently finished or are still working on to share your progress.
- Sales Table – You are invited to bring craft related and other items for sale. Please, no jumble. 20% of sales goes to the Guild.
- Raffle – with craft related prizes.

GUILD MEMBERS : Workshop fee: £10, otherwise meeting attendance is included in annual membership fee.
VISITOR COST: Workshop fee: £20 (if taking part), plus £7.00 visitor fee, per person, which includes tea/coffee and cake.
WORKSHOP DETAILS:
Leno Lace & Brooks Bouquet hand manipulated Design Workshop
Join us for an engaging and hands on workshop where you will learn the techniques of Leno Lace & Brooks Bouquet on a rigid heddle loom. It is also possible to weave on a cardboard loom the techniques but it is a bit harder.
Workshop highlights:
1. Learn basic Weaving Techniques using Rigid Heddle loom as well as on a Cardboard loom
2. Learn Brooks Bouquet 3:3, 4:4 etc on an open shed, using the stick shuttle to wrap around the warp threads on the loom.
3. Learn Leno Lace design 1:1, 2:2, 3:3 etc on a closed shed where all the threads line up together, using your hands to physically move the warp on a pick up stick the width of the weaving loom.
What you will need is a Rigid Heddle weaving loom threaded up with a plain colour or stripy or multi coloured warp. Your choice.
The instructor will have 5 different Rigid Heddle looms threaded up with different colours warps, which participants will take turns using.
You will be provided with a cardboard loom and a tapestry needle.
A wooden pick up stick that fits the width of the warp on the loom
A stick shuttle or boat shuttle with bobbin with thread of your choice
Wool or Acrylic yarn any colour or thickness
Tapestry plastic needle for using in cardboard loom
Scissors
Plastic fork or Afro Comb
